Broaden the knowledge in one of the topics of the applied and numerical analysis.
This term, we focus on a posteriori error estimates for elliptic PDEs.
A posteriori error estimation is an important topic in Scientfic Computing, since it allows to judge the accuracy of a computed discrete solution without knowing the exact solution. Moreover, the local contributions of these error estimators can be used to improve the current mesh and hence to obtain more accurate discrete solutions. Both aspects are active research fields in nowadays numerical analysis.
If you want to participate and to give a lecture, please contact Dirk Praetorius via email dirk.praetorius@tuwien.ac.at to make an appointment and to fix the topic of a possible talk.
Each student gives a 90-minute lecture. Moreover, a term paper (approx. 10 pages) has to be written.
