Broaden the knowledge in one of the topics of the applied and numerical analysis.
This term, we focus on theorems for Sobolev spaces.
Sobolev spaces provide the mathematical framework for the analysis and numerical treatment of certain partial differential equations (PDEs). In the seminar, we aim to study the main results on Sobolev spaces. Some of them (density as well as compact resp. continuous embedding theorems) have already been treated in the Analysis 3 lecture, but will also consider trace and lifting theorems. A further focus of the seminar is on the applications of the theorems for the proof of existence and uniqueness of solutions to elliptic PDEs as well as their numerical treatment.
If you want to participate and to give a lecture, please contact Dirk Praetorius via email dirk.praetorius@tuwien.ac.at to make an appointment and to fix the topic of a possible talk.
Each student gives a 90-minute lecture. Moreover, a term paper (approx. 10 pages) has to be written.
