After successful completion of the course, students are able to discuss ideas & concepts of other “disciplines” / “research fields” (based on literature) and to discuss ethical and responsibility dimensions in interdisciplinary robotics research. Further, they will be knowledgeable about relevant scientific journals.
Students will also acquire basic skills and knowledge about research ethics and how to apply them in practice at TU Wien.
After successful completion of the course, students will
- have the capacity for literature-based reflection, particularly with regard to ethical and responsibility dimensions within interdisciplinary robotics research
- have the capacity for interdisciplinary reflection in robotics research
- have the capacity for "interactive expertise" (exchange on ideas and concepts with other “disciplines” / “fields of research” relevant to interdisciplinary robotics research)
- have acquired basic skills and knowledge in applied research ethics
WORKSHOP
Preparation of Workshops:
1. Read the Reflection Papers of your colleagues on interdisciplinary work from Summer Semester 2019 (see TUWEL page, folder “Reflection Papers”)
2. At your summer school, you will (assisted by the leaders of the DK) define small interdisciplinary project teams. Within these interdisciplinary teams, select readings/texts that are of relevance for your respective team projects. Ideally, each team member suggests 1-2 texts (either an article, book chapter, work in progress or similar texts) that represent key ideas or concepts from his/her respective “discipline”/”field of research”. They can be written by someone else or by yourself. Everyone should have read (and have tried to understand !) the articles from the other “disciplines”/”fields”! Please upload your selection of 3-6 texts to TUWEL until 25 Sept!
1 October (15-18.00, HS2)
Reading Workshop (Part 1, by Lisa Sigl)
- Short discussion of group papers on interdisciplinary work (from Summer Semester 2019)
- Discussion of readings within teams; goal: understand key ideas, concepts & questions relevant to other “disciplines” / “fields of research”
- Discuss ideas within whole group: Options for how to pursue the team project further
8 October (15-17.00, HS2)
Reading Workshop (Part 2, by Lisa Sigl)
- Interdisciplinary discussion and feedback on team project plans
29 January (13-16.00)
Workshop on “Research Ethics & Research Integrity” (by Marjo Rauhala & Nicole Föger, ÖÄWI)
Attendance, Active Participation
To complete the course, students need to attend the workshops, get prepared for the discussions in class by reading required readings and by preparing an interdisciplinary team presentation.
In case attendance is not possible (e.g. because of sickness or conference visits abroad), students may compensate for this with written assignments. In this case, please ask the lecturers about details.
