Aim of course

• Capacity for literature-based reflection of ethical and responsibility dimensions in robotics research.
• Independent research on ethical and responsibility dimensions regarding one’s own specific research topic
• Interactive mapping of controversial questions and issues relevant to robotics research practices

Winter Semester: Robotics and Responsibility 2. Interaction with Publics and Stakeholders

The UE accompanies the whole Doctoral College with workshops (0,5ECTS/Semester). This means that participants will receive 3ECTS in total at the end of the Doctoral College.

The workshop dates for the first semester are:

  • 12. December, 9.00-13.00 (HS2 in der Theresianumgasse 27, 1st floor)
  • 23. January, 13.00-17.00 (HS2 in der Theresianumgasse 27, 1st floor)

Preparation for the first workshop, consider the following tasks and send them in a document to lisa.sigl@univie.ac.at until 5th December.

  • Identify 3 issues that are critically discussed in relation to robotics. Please formulate a "working title" and one controversial question for each of these issues.
  • Identify three main actors/stakeholders in society that are relevant to how robotics research develops today

Write a personal essay (2 pages, app. 1.200 words) on the question: Why is it important to fund robotics research today?
