Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to recognize and analyze complex crystallographic problems. Special attention will be paid to the solution and description of non-routine crystal structures.

Subject of course

Symmetry relationships: group/subgroup relations, Hermann theorem, coset decomposition, normal subgroups, normalizers.

Modular structures: classification, space groupoids, OD structures, twins, antiphase domains, allotwins.

Quasiperiodic structures: Incommensurately modulated structures, superspace approach.

Diffuse scattering: growth models, Markov chains, structure factor calculations.
