Participants of this design studio have the unique opportunity to work in groups with students from Japan. Under the joint supervision of the Japan Austria Science Exchange Center (TU Wien), High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (University Stuttgart) and Prof. Mishima (Saga University) the participating students will enhance architectural design competence and gain knowledge in 3D surveying and planning using 3DS Max and acquire new skills in simulation and visualization techniques for virtual and augmented realities.
The task is the design of a small to medium size multifunctional building that houses workplaces for students and offers possibilities for catering at TU Wien’s Campus Getreidemarkt. Groundwork for the design will be a 3D surveying and mapping of the site and its surroundings.
Phase 1:
site analysis, conceptual design, 3DS Max training, implementing concept in 3D
Phase 2:
excursion to Stuttgart and spatial simulation at HLRS
(TU Wien and Saga University students)
Phase 3:
TU Wien students will continue the detailed design process in Vienna
(group work, TU Wien students only)
Language:
English
Excursion to Stuttgart:
TU Wien students have to organize the trip to Stuttgart by themselves (car pooling, bus, plane).
Required skills:
Good English language proficiency | AutoCAD (2D/3D) skills | 3DS Max skills are beneficial
Group Work:
Conceptual phase: groups of 3 TU Wien and 3 Saga University students
Detailed design phase: groups of 3 TU Wien students

Attention:
This design studio is a blocked course with an intensive workshop phase (incl. weekends) from March 8 until March 21, 2019. Within that time, we will make an excursion to Stuttgart from March 17 until March 21, 2019. The trip to Stuttgart is compulsory for all participants and has to be organized and paid by the participating students (car pooling, bus, plane).
In total there will be 12 participants from TU Wien and 12 participants from our Japanese partner university. You will work in groups (3 local students + 3 students from Japan per group).
Interested students have to be able to reserve the dates from March 8 until March 21 (incl. weekends) exclusively for this design studio!
Good English language proficiency | AutoCAD (2D/3D) skills | 3DS Max skills are beneficial
As you will work in groups with students from Japan you should have an open-minded and outgoing personality.
