Aim of course

You have a right to equal opportunities! Fair treatment is a basic right in the European Union. It is illegal to discriminate because of a person's sex, age, disability, ethnic or racial origin, religion, belief or sexual orientation.

The focus of the following information is on the economic sector and on employment. For employment contracts, there are specific regulations and laws in the EU and thus in Austria, which aim to guarantee equal opportunities for everyone.

Subject of course

The laws on equal rights between women and man were joined by new EU legislation in 2000 that prohibit discrimination on other grounds. Under these new laws it is illegal to discriminate against someone because of their:

  • Gender
  • Racial and ethnic origin
  • Religion and belief
  • Disability
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age
