After successful completion of the course, students are able to speak and write about technical matters in English. Through group work, debates, poster presentations, and exams on a variety of technical and business-related topics, you will increase your technical vocabulary, acquire a natural and confident use of technical and scientific English, and improve your grammar and pronunciation.
Course content: This course emphasizes regular short essay and letter writing: project proposals, describing processes, giving instructions, business letters, workplace correspondence, complaint letters, CV / application letter writing and interview training. Students will also do group work and individual presentations using flipchart, whiteboard, and Powerpoint. Special focus will also be given to the following: Vocabulary building through broad exposure to technical topics Pronunciation of technically relevant words: analysis, hypothesis, height, etc. Spelling & Word Differentiation: lose vs. loose / personal vs. personnel / etc. Avoiding Typical Germanisms Punctuation: Apostrophe and Comma use Correct Citation / Avoiding Plagiarism / Research Methods
Workshops are held on CV and cover-letter writing, as well as interviewing. Students submit their job applications, and every student has a 5-minute personal interview. Poster presentations on the differentiation of technical and scientific vocabulary are given in student teams. There is a written and oral midterm and final exam, which focuses on grammar, pronunciation, word choice, and short-essay writing.
Testing and Evaluation of Mastery: Technical Term Paper / Technical Presentation / Oral and Written Exam Target group: all faculties with high school English knowledge and above, and basic knowledge of technical terminology.
