Course objective: Technical English Communication will help students become better communicators and presenters in both technical and business contexts. Students will gain confidence and competence in the use of English as a scientific language through frequent writing, grammar drills, group work, and presentations.
Course content: This course emphasizes regular short essay and letter writing: project proposals, describing processes, giving instructions, business letters, workplace correspondence, complaint letters, CV / application letter writing and interview training. Students will also do group work and individual presentations using flipchart, whiteboard, and Powerpoint. Special focus will also be given to the following: Vocabulary building through broad exposure to technical topics Pronunciation of technically relevant words: analysis, hypothesis, height, etc. Spelling & Word Differentiation: lose vs. loose / personal vs. personnel / etc. Avoiding Typical Germanisms Punctuation: Apostrophe and Comma use Correct Citation / Avoiding Plagiarism / Research Methods
Testing and Evaluation of Mastery: Technical Term Paper / Technical Presentation / Oral and Written Exam Target group: all faculties with high school English knowledge and above, and basic knowledge of technical terminology.
