Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • continue the module vehicle system dynamics.
  • conduct more detailed investigations on vehicles, rail vehicles and watercraft with the aid of a well-founded understanding of vehicle dynamics.
  • solve examples independently using the theoretical foundations.
  • conduct investigations on vehicles using mathematical models / descriptions.

Subject of course

Vehicle system dynamics of automobiles (and 2-wheeled vehicles), railway vehicles, watercrafts, aeroplanes: description of supporting, guiding and traction/braking systems. Detailed consideration of motor vehicle (basic vehicle and tyre models, tyre characteristics, longitudinal dynamics, handling and stability behaviour), railway vehicles (wheel-rail contact, basic models, longitudinal dynamics, driving resistance), watercrafts (stability, resistance, similarty of scaled models) and aircrafts (static and dynamics stability, simple models, seady-state motion)
