Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply knowledge of the methods that support the design of advanced architectural solutions in the healthcare domain and understand different stakeholders and requirements. They will also be familiar with current technology that can be applied within the built environment to enable advanced concepts such as occupancy detection, thermal comfort, indoor air quality, wellbeing etc. Students will obtain knowledge on BIM/digital twin, simulation, and sensor technology - used as tools for designing human-centred supportive environments.

Subject of course

Technology-driven healthcare facilities design course deals both with advanced methods that support the design as well as advanced architectural features supported by technology. The course will focus on exploring new territories when it comes to data monitoring and processing for healthcare design support and well-being, through simulation or prototyping processes. Interactive models (real and digital) will serve as tools to help future architects better understand capabilities of technology and its contribution in healthcare.

This course is part of the initiative for the annual theme 2023/24 “Transformation des Bestands.” You can find more information and an overview of all participating courses at the following link: https://futurelab.tuwien.ac.at/jahresthema-2023-24
