(1) Equivalent formulation of an elliptic PDE in form of a boundary integral equation, (2) Galerkin discretization of the arrising boundary integral equation (so-called boundary element method), (3) Efficient treatment of the stiffness matrix by use of H-matrix techniques, (4) Advantages and Disadvantages of the boundary element method if compared to the usual finite element method
